MARIAH BARONEL da SILVA
Rescuing Memories of Afffection.
I come from distant descent … Southern Brazil, a lineage of coffee growers, I was born and raised on coffee farms. Time has passed but I keep in my intrinsic memory the coffee times of my childhood and adolescence.

My mother, while working in the coffee plantation, left me under the flowering coffee trees. At the age of 12, I accompanied my Father around the farms and at that time it was contagious, many employees spreading coffee on the terrace after bagging and transporting it to the warehouses. They were joyful feast days with a lot of fraternization among the neighboring farmers. After the negotiations and making the sales, it was a time of wealth where we could change cars, buy more expensive things we wanted, take some trips and of course, bother my Father to buy some clothes.
Anyway, harvest season meant prosperity in life…
I also remember waking up to go to school and seeing my mother roasting coffee, the smell is in my nostrils to this day. My Mother always let me grind coffee on the spot for everyday use.
Anyway, harvest season meant prosperity in life…
A memory I have was of my mother leaving the percolator at the window and the people from the farm who passed by asked to take the grounds that were still enough to make more doses of coffee, the coffee was robust, strong and was good for that.
Life went on but I didn't forget and at the age of 19 I already lived in the urban center of Londrina I had my first job in a newspaper in the commercial area, I worked for 7 years, then I went to AMBEVE, a multinational where I worked for another 7 years, also in commercial area with drinks and where I learned a lot of what I know about marketing and sales. But it wasn't what I wanted, despite being quite well paid, and that's when I decided to come after my European side to get to know other cultures and other people, I immigrated and came to Portugal.
A cycle ended in Brazil and still not satisfied I decided to emigrate, I wanted to explore other cultures and came to Portugal.
In 2005 I arrived in Lisbon and I was excited by what I saw, I thought I had found myself because in this country everything is coffee, they only talk about coffee and going to coffee. Business meetings are often in cafes, happy hours are in cafes, in times of joy and sadness people gather a lot in cafes and pastry shops. It was there that I entered the restaurant industry because I wanted to understand more about Portuguese gastronomy. It was there that I came into contact with many different cultures from different parts of Europe and the world and I also worked with great bosses who taught me a lot.

After several years, and even more experiences, I took the leap and being in this country where everything is coffee, and revolves around cafes, I thought, why not dedicate myself to coffee. I come from an area of a country that is a big coffee consumer and the biggest producer and exporter of coffee in the world, it has about 40% of the world's coffee production, it would make perfect sense to bring a retro coffee here... the genuine coffee ... how it was prepared, roasted and consumed by the original producers and indigenous peoples. That's where this fresh coffee of the day project came about, bringing to the modern world the oldest way of making coffee of the day, manually, sophisticated and sustainable. This is how YAGUARA Coffee was born, an indigenous name, in honor of the indigenous peoples, for whom I have great affection and consideration, and to my country, which is the largest producer and exporter of coffee.
I did a lot of research and found that the freshly roasted coffee bean brings great health benefits and has many medicinal properties for diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, among many others. Also linked to coffee and gastronomy we can bring incredible flavors in the form of sweets, cakes, drinks and beverages. In the area of beauty, we can use coffee powder as an exfoliating agent and an adjunct to cleaning and strengthening capillaries. We also have sustainability projects and the reuse of coffee grounds, producing soap and soaps for the body and domestic uses. We can also use coffee grounds as a fertilizer to strengthen plants.
This is YAGUARA Coffee, strength and revitalizing energy for the Portuguese table...
Now living and established in Europe, I decided to rescue all these memories from that time, from my childhood and adolescence, and go back to producing that wonderful coffee, roasted the same day, or the day before, that had a unique flavor and aroma and that gave exceptional vitality. This coffee made in the traditional way and consumed shortly after being roasted and ground, was not only exceptional, but also, what I also came to learn, was in fact a Nutritional Super-Food.
