There are several stories of legends and myths about the origin of coffee and how it was discovered, but there is one more well known, the existence of a Kaffa shepherd named Kaldi, who happened in the current Ethiopia history and who deserves for many more known despite even so. have two variants.
At the time the legend occurs, Ethiopia was still called Abyssinia and it is said that Kaldi was herding her goats walking through a mountainous area near a monastery. He noticed that they were behaving very strangely that day, and they started jumping in an excited way, bleating loudly and practically dancing on their hind legs.

After a while he discovered that the source of the excitement was a small bush with bright red berries. He became extremely curious and ate the fruits, like the goats, and with that Kaldi felt the energizing effects of the coffee cherries. After filling his pockets with the berries, he ran to his wife at home and she advised him to go to the nearby monastery to share these “heaven-sent” fruits with the monks. Upon arriving at the monastery, Kaldi's coffee beans were not greeted with joy, but with disdain.

Acredita-se que o personagem lendário de Kaldi teria existido por volta de 850 DC. Esse relato coincide com a crença comum de que o cultivo do café começou na Etiópia por volta do século IX. No entanto, alguns acreditam que o café foi cultivado desde 575 DC no Iêmen.
